Hungering for Jesus...Pressing Up and Through

Insurance claim: Act of God?
Mark 2:12 (Amplified Bible)
And he arose at once and picked up the sleeping pad or mat and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and recognized and praised and thanked God, saying, We have never seen anything like this before!

I get that funny Ferris wheel feeling every time I read the above: “We have never seen anything like this before!” After that special tingle, I feel a bit sad because these words should really be uttered more within Christendom. If there is anything God is dissatisfied with, it is stagnant, same-old-same-old conditions.

In essence the question is: “how hungry are we to get to Jesus?” In Mark 2:4 the men were so hungry to get the paralytic man to Jesus that they were willing to go/press up to the housetop- and literally dig through the roof so they could lower the man to Jesus! Now that’s frigging Hungering for Jesus! My if we were only hungry enough today to dig through a few more roofs and obstacles for Jesus!?!

Speaking of being hungry:

No matter how nice a restaurant is…I hate waiting! Nothing pisses me off more than being hungry and having to wait in a lobby or outside with a bunch of other hungry pissed off people. Everybody is just standing around glaring at one another waiting for our coaster-like restaurant pagers to go off. Eventually the anticipation level reaches such a fevered pitch the only greater call would be an 11th hour jingle from the governor pardoning our own death sentence. It is during this time I become the most judgmental of other peoples’ flaws. It could be anything from a harelip to mismatched clothing; a big fat belly to a half-zipped fly…I see all! It is during this time I have to check myself, take a couple of deep breaths, and pray! When I do this an overwhelming sense of calm comes over me, and I no longer wish to rock-skip my pager off the bad toupee of the man in front of me. It is then my physical hunger turns to hungering for Jesus and the lost. It is then I long to connect with others and share some time and conversation. Once I engage with others it seems within no time the pager goes BZZZZZ.

Questions: (you don't have to answer them all:)

  • As Christians-Why are we not hungering more for Jesus?
  • How is your prayer life?
  • Would you ever wear a toupee?
  • What is the longest you ever waited to be seated at a restaurant?
